The abstract submission deadline is coming!!! And it is even earlier this year! AAAAH!
It is true, the submission deadline is approaching, and it is a bit earlier than usual. Not only that, we’re using a new meeting platform, ECHO, for abstract submission, reviewer sign-up, stipend applications, and disclosure submission. However, some things are the same—we still want you to submit great MRI research.
Change 1: Abstract submission deadline is 29 October 2026 at 23:59 UTC. That date should already be on your calendar, so we’ll move on to the next changes.
Change 2: We’re using the new ECHO platform. You can use ECHO to submit your abstract, sign up as an abstract reviewer, submit your disclosures, submit a Member-Initiated Session, and, if eligible, apply for stipends.
The ECHO platform was developed by and for ISMRM. We think that we’ve built a great platform. That said, it is a new platform. Please be patient with us this year, and also know that we are open to your input. If you have suggestions, let us know using the “Help & Support” link within the platform.
Those are the big changes. There are a few more changes, so let’s go through those also.
Change 3: 2026 membership is required for all stipends. I recommend that you make sure your 2026 membership is up-to-date (now!).
Change 4: We have a new abstract category, MRI in Clinical Practice. The goal of this category is to feature the impact of MRI in clinical practice, and it developed through the MD engagement project. You can find details about this abstract type here.
For everyone submitting abstracts, I recommend that you watch the virtual meetings the AMPC organized in collaboration with the Indian Chapter and the Reproducible Research Study Group. I highly recommend that you watch the first virtual meeting in the series to learn more about the Impact & Synopsis: An Overview of Crafting Strong ISMRM Abstracts, Session I. There were two other virtual meetings that covered details of abstract writing for different types of abstracts, e.g., those focused on hardware development or clinical applications: Insights on Clinical & Technical Abstracts, Session II & Insights on Clinical & Technical Abstracts, Session III. You can learn more about how to write a registered abstract in this virtual meeting: ISMRM Abstract Writing Webinar Series: How To Write a Registered Abstract.
Finally, please volunteer to review abstracts! (Please use ECHO to sign up as a reviewer.) We need your help to review submitted abstracts and ensure that we have great scientific content at the annual meeting.
I am looking forward to your submissions for the Cape Town meeting 09-14 May 2026. I wish for you all that these final experiments go smoothly, there is ample scan time, the MRI scanner Gremlins stay away, and your fingers are ready to write!
